Jack Roy Stone

Mr. Jack Roy Stone, age 79 of Calhoun, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Stone was born in Gordon County on March 5, 1933, son of the late Roy Lee and Nannie Reece Stone. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children,Vivian Daffron Stone in 1986, a sister, Evelyn Stone Wilson, a brother, Hulan Stone, and a grandson, Teddy Willden.

Mr. Stone was retired from General Motors, and for the past 40 years has led singing, taught bible studies, and held tea parties for the local nursing home residents. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, a member of the church choir, soloist, and Sunday School teacher. He served lunch once a month to the families of ICU patients at Gordon Hospital. At Christmas he always found time to prepare and deliver fruit baskets.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Stone of Calhoun; six daughters, Patsy Stone, Faye Hambright, and Sandy Stone, all of Dalton; Kim McBee Mullins and her husband Ray of Calhoun, Tracy Black and her husband Jim of Calhoun, and Keila Gowens and her husband Tracy of Calhoun; a son, Ronald Hartley and his wife Debra of Calhoun, a sister, Frances Stone Kittle of McDonough, GA; and two brothers, Maxie Stone of Lafayette, GA, and Jimmy Stone of Dalton, GA. Grandchildren include Patience Evans, Jody Buckner, Jacklyn Sampson, Steven Kendricks, Josh Duke, Meagan Duke, Caleb Hartley, Laci Woodward, Ashley Woodward and Hannah Gowens. Great Grandchildren are Katy Buckner, Brett Buckner, Carter Edmonds, Jaxson Duke, Jewell Kendricks, Bailee Anne Black, Beau Black, Kate Harris, Alyse Harris, Brant Harris and Breck Black.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Jack Roy Stone will be conducted Sunday, April 1st at 3:00 PM from Philadelphia Baptist Church, with Rev. Jeff Dutton, Rev. Tim McCulley and Rev. James Shope officiating. Interment will follow in Blackwood Springs Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Brannon presiding at the graveside. Pallbearers serving will include Caleb Hartley, Jody Buckner, Josh Duke, Steven Kendricks, Daniel Evans, Shawn Evans and Dustin Thornbrough. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Chadwick, Jack McEntire, Rev. James Cobb and Deacons of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

The Stone family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Building Fund in Mr. Stone's memory.
