Jack Silvers

Mr. Jack Silvers age 79 of Calhoun died Friday October 7th in Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome after a brief illness.

Mr. Silvers was born in Gordon County, Georgia on January 12, 1932. He was the son of the late John and Vista Carver Silvers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters; Mattie Silvers Dodd, Ruby Silvers Bowen, Pearl Silvers Weaver, Ella Silvers Hales, Tot Silvers Stanfield and Pauline Silvers; and by four brothers, Homer Silvers, Wm. Cicero Silvers, James Silvers and Roy Silvers. He was retired from the United States Army after 22 years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His awards and decorations included the Combat Infantry Badge with Star, the Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Metal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the United Nation Service Medal and the Army Occupation of Japan Medal. Mr. Silvers retired from carpentry. He was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor "Pretty" Silvers to whom he was married for 57 years; two daughters, Sandy Silvers Bunch and her husband Keith of Calhoun, and Gina Silvers Mears and her husband Roy of Calhoun; a son, Jack D. Silvers and his wife Birgit of Easton, Kansas; and a brother, Bill Silvers of Calhoun. Seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Jack Silvers will be conducted Monday October 10th at 3:30 from Meadowdale Baptist Church with Dr. Garry Tate and Dr. Steven Pearson officiating. Music will be arranged by Ron and Faye Bentley, Sharon Fritts and Angie Childers. Interment will follow in Chandler cemetery with full Military Honors.

Pallbearers serving will include Adrian Bunch, Bret Mears, Steven Baucom, Mark Svihra, Gene Bowen, Jerry Bowen, Wayne Bowen and Charles Weaver and they are asked to meet at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Monday at 2:00 PM. Honorary pallbearers serving include Dale Hice, Jack Bibb, Richard Jones, Jim Davis, David Knight, Ronnie VanDyke, Jack Bowman, J.C. Garlin and Jimmy Prater. These gentlemen are asked to meet at Meadowdale Baptist Church at 3:15 PM Monday.

The Silvers family will begin receiving friends Sunday evening between the hours of 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Meadowdale Baptist Church. On Monday the body will be placed in state at the church from 2:30 PM until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contribution be made to the local chapter of the American Cancer or American Heart Association.
