James Alfred Waddell, age 82, of Naples, Florida died Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born in Fleming Neon, Kentucky on March 20, 1934 to the late Thomas Benson Waddell and Hazel (Breeding) Waddell. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Waddell and Samuel Louis Waddell; and by two sisters, Ina Francis Waddell and Mary Hazel Waddell Mullins.
Mr. Waddell was a veteran of the United States Navy. Prior to his retirement, he was a professor of the English Department for the University of Pennsylvania. After retirement Mr. Waddell moved to Naples, Florida.
He is survived by four brothers, Bobby Waddell of Detroit, Michigan, Sherman Waddell of Martinez, California, Thomas Waddell Jr. of Hazard, Kentucky, and Billy Ray Waddell of Fleming Neon, Kentucky; three sisters, Betty Lou Waddell Conaway and her husband Loyd of Calhoun, Georgia, Emma Sue Waddell Pierce and her husband Charles of Calhoun, Georgia, and Brenda Kay Awad and her husband Alex of Eugene, Oregon.
Mr. Waddell will be cremated, per his request, and will be returned to Fleming Neon, Kentucky for burial beside his mother and father.
