Mr. James C. Mealor, 89, a longtime resident of the New Town Community, died Monday July 11, 2016 at Redmond Regional Medical Center, following several months of declining health.
He was born in Gordon County on July 26, 1926, son of the late Ethel and Stella Hardeman Mealor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Jackson Mealor in 2011; his son, Larry Mealor in 1992; a brother, Boyd Mealor; and a sister, Annie Lou Foster.
Mr. Mealor was a retired auto body repairman, and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of New Town Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Jimmy Mealor and his wife Cheryl of Calhoun; granddaughters, Mandy Mealor Cunniff and her husband, Lt. Colonel Chris Cunniff of Newport, Rhode Island, and Candice Mealor of Calhoun; and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Paige and Sarah Cunniff, all of Rhode Island.
A nephew, Greg Mealor, and other relatives also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. James C. Mealor will be held Wednesday, July 13th at 2:00 PM from New Town Baptist Church, with Rev. Winfred Casey and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Rev. Walter Hare will be in charge of the music. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 13th between the hours of 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM at New Town Baptist Church. Pallbearers serving include, Mike Hall, Jerry Davis, Roy Davis, Edward Boswell, Elvin Glass, Gary Fuller, and Eddie Watkins. They are requested to assemble at 1:30 PM Wednesday at the church.
