James Earl Edwards

Mr. James Earl Edwards, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Redmond Regional Center in Rome. Mr. Edwards was born in Gordon County, GA on July 14, 1933, son of the late James Burton Edwards and Dessie Edwards. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Elijah Edwards from Dalton and a son-in-law, Raymond Lumpkin.


He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Gordon County Fire Department at Sonoraville - Station 2, where he served as a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years, and was a crossing Guard for the Gordon County Sherriffs Department at Sonoraville Middle School. He was also a former member of the Adairsville Police Department Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, Robbie Jean Beets Edwards to whom he was married for 53 years; two daughters, Anita Lumpkin of Colorado and Terri Edwards of Breman, GA; six sons, Willard Edwards and his wife Sonia of Villanow, GA, Joseph Edwards and his wife Teresa of Calhoun, Charles Edwards and his wife Wendy of Calhoun, David Edwards of Calhoun, Christopher Edwards and his wife KaLeigh of Adairsville and James E. Edwards and his wife Linda of Calhoun; two sisters, Sue Hallaway and her husband Pete of Calhoun and Ann Bailey of Calhoun; two brothers, Albert Edwards and his wife Barbara of Calhoun and Harry Edwards of Calhoun; twenty one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. James Earl Edwards will be held on Sunday, April 13th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. George Gray, Rev. Frank Bramlett and Rev. Gary Quarles officiating. Music will be arranged by James Williams. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Park with "Last Call" honors accorded by the Gordon County Fire Department.

The Edwards family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons, Saturday April 12th between the hours of 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
