James Floyd Jernigan

Mr. James Floyd Jernigan, age 77 of Calhoun, died on Friday, November 7, 2014 at his home following an extended illness.

He was born on September 24, 1937 in Jackson County, Alabama, son of the late W.M. Henry and Lilli E. Akins Jernigan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a host of brothers and sisters.

James was a member of Skyline Baptist Church. He retired from Mohawk Industries. James served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Jernigan; his sons and their wives, Johnny and Lisa Jernigan, of Calhoun, and Tim and Jennifer Jernigan of Summerville; daughters, Carol Jernigan and her companion, Judy Nantz of Mableton, Janet Hoover and her husband Ron of Casper, Wyoming, Gail Bruni and her husband Steve of Calhoun, Audry Wilson and her husband Ed of Calhoun, and Christy Francher of Calhoun; step-daughters, Sheila Brantley of Fort Payne, AL, Gwen Lee of Menlo, Connie Bryson of Jamestown, AL, and Lisa Brown of Summerville; and a sister, Rosie Brewer of Ider, AL. Fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Floyd Jernigan will be held Sunday, November 9th at 2:00 PM from Skyline Baptist Church, with Rev. John Dorsey and Daniel Brown officiating. Mr. Jernigans body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Gordon Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers serving include Zachary Francher, Jonathan Francher, Aaron Jernigan, Jeff Walker, Joshua Walker, and Rusty Hopkins.

The Jernigan family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
