Mr. James Franklin White, age 74 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009.
He was born on July 3, 1935 in Floyd County, son of the late Lee M. and Lueralla Rigdon White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William White and Lee White, Jr., a son-in-law, Jerry Crider, and special friend, Harrison "Dick" Dickson.
Mr. White was a well known businessman, being the owner and operator of White's Service Company. He and his brother David came to Calhoun in January of 1964 and started White's Appliance Sales and Service, and was an electrical, plumbing, and heating and air contractor. He had worked in many types of construction trades, and once owned White's Western Store and New Town Stables. He was a former member of Plumbing and Pipefitters Union # 72, as well as a member of American Legion Post 47 of Calhoun. His trade mark was wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. James was a loving family man to his family, and loved working out doors gardening and horseback riding, as well as collecting classic cars. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp Reserve, having served his country for ten years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley White; two daughters, Gwenona Crider, and Melinda Dill and her husband Robert Jr.; grandchildren, Heather Crider West and her husband Brandon, Kayla Dill, and Robert (Bubba) Dill III; two great grandchildren, Hannah and Justin West; a brother, Rev. David White and his wife Mildred of Calhoun; and three sisters, Opal Staton and her husband James of Havana, Florida, Betty White of Summerville, and Faye McClure of Adairsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. James Franklin White will be conducted Saturday at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Hibberts officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include David White, Jr., Jerry Helms, Anthony Thomas, Larry Gaines, Matt Parker and Wilborn Dycus. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Ray and Wanda Moore, Robert King, Larry Davis, Rayford Gilbert, Larry Lovingood and Rita David Collins. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 2:30pm. Interment will follow the service in Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Friday evening during the hours of 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
