Mr. James Milton Cook, age 80 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born November 4, 1932 to the late James Hilton and Flora Ida Bandy Cook. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ricky Barfield, Donald Cook, and David Bowman; and sisters, Margaret Walker, Jeannie Cook, and Maryland Day.
Mr. Cook was a veteran, serving his country in the US Army. Before retiring, he worked as a textile Maintance Supervisor.
James was a loving father, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Joyce Thomas Cook; daughter Cindy J. Strickland and her husband Michael D. Strickland of Douglasville, GA; five brothers, Ralph Cook of Chickamauga, GA, Marty Cook of Lafayette, GA, William "Bill" Cook of Lafayette, GA, Gordon "Bubba" Cook, and Johnny Cook; and three sisters, Nina Ruth Dilbeck of Trion, GA, Hilda Ann Wooten of Lafayette, and Roxanne Ogle and Jeannie Cook of Lafayette. Grandchildren are Tara Lynn Young, Amanda Shell Ferguson, Blake James Faulkner, and M. Andrew Strickland; and great-grandchildren, Russell Gage Ferguson, Barack Holden Ferguson, Victoria Sloan Ferguson, Noah Cole Ferguson, Kirsten Skye Young, Allie Reece Young, Cayden Blake Bentley, and James Greyson Faulkner.
Funeral services for Mr. James Milton Cook will be conducted on Friday September 13th, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. William Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers include Russell (Gage) Ferguson, Jason Cook, Jeff Young, Allen Jackson, Blake James Faulkner, Michael Andrew Strickland, and Ronnie Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers include the Salem Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class, Nurses and Aids of Calhoun Healthcare, Dr. Hann, Nurses, Techs, and ICU staff of Gordon Hospital, and the staff of Tapestry Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday September 12th from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
