James Richard Seritt, 84, of Calhoun, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Calhoun Health Care Center.
Born June 20, 1930 in Sugar Valley, Mr. Seritt was a carpenter by trade, building over 200 houses and two schools in the Atlanta area before moving back to Calhoun in 1971, where he lived until his death. He was well-respected and loved by everyone who met him. He served in the U.S. Army in the Lineman Corps, which installed telephone and communications lines to help rebuild Europe after World War II, and was stationed in Germany and France.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Frances Whitehead Seritt and Rufus Leon Seritt; brothers and sisters, Imogene Ramey, Walter Seritt, Geneva Dowdy, and Joyce Littlefield; and a nephew, Randall Seritt.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Leanne Stennett and Stacey Littlefield of Calhoun, Robin Littlefield of Nashville, TN, Cristina McHugh of Melbourne, FL, Edward Ramey of Blue Ridge, Kenneth Dowdy and David Dowdy of Cumming, Steve Dowdy of Dawsonville, Susan Dutton of Carrollton, Ricky Seritt of Chatsworth, and Lisa Naugel of Whitesburg; and special neighbors, Don and Marcella Cochran, Sam and Shirley Harwell, and James and Phyllis Joy.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Lamar Bearden officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Valley United Methodist Church cemetery with Marvin Tate in charge of the graveside service. Active pallbearers will include Edward Ramey, Edward Lamar Ramey, Cody Ramey, Steve Dowdy, James Dowdy, and Sam Harwell. Honorary pallbearers are Don Cochran and James Joy.
The Seritt family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, November 7th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
