Mr. James "Bun" Stewart, age 75 of Calhoun, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Emory Medical Center. He was born in Gordon County on October 11th, 1933, son of the late Marvin C. Stewart and Vera Hall Stewart. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Wylene Brown and Jean Balliew; a brother, Bob Stewart; and by the mother of his children, Dorothy Kirby Stewart in 1977.
Mr. Stewart was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years. He proudly served in Viet Nam, and was awarded numerous medals throughout his military career. He retired from active duty on June 1, 1974, having attained the rank of Technical Sargent. During his lifetime he was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, college sports, and was a member of the Republican Party. His greatest enjoyment came from being a grandfather and traveling. He attended Sugar Valley Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Sharion Barton Stewart, to whom he was married for 31 years; five daughters, Marsha Stone and her husband Rodney of Dalton, Carol Hilton and her husband Tim of Calhoun, Pam Smith and her husband Steve of Calhoun, Pat Bryson and her husband Jeff of Hixson, Tennessee, and Lesa Seabolt and her husband Ted of Calhoun; a son, Lynn Blankenship and his wife Debra of Ft. Worth, Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Reynolds of Rome, and Polly Dean and Marie Bentley, both of Calhoun. Ten grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. James "Bun" Stewart will be held Sunday, April 5th at 3:00 PM from the Sugar Valley Church of God, with Pastor Dwaine Shadix officiating. Music will be arranged by the church choir. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Church of God Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Pallbearers serving will include nephews, Johnny Dean, Jim Roberts, Jerry Dean, David Raines, Bill Brown and Bert Brown. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Duck Townsend, Gerald Brown, Herschel Sexton and Jack Anderson.
The family of James "Bun" Stewart will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Saturday, between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
