James William Shope

James William (J.W.) Shope, 82 of Calhoun, died Friday, May 22, 2015. He was born on March 23, 1933, son of the late James Blaine Shope and Artie Price Shope. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bess L. Ann Phipps Shope.

Mr. Shope was a graduate of Fairmount School. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement, he worked in the maintenance department at Wal-Mart.

Survivors include his son, Jeff Shope and his wife Pam of Rome; daughter, Tammy Lewis of Calhoun; sisters, Betty Kirby and her husband J.R. of Calhoun and Debra Parker and her husband Douglas of Calhoun; grandchildren, Todd Dutton, Taylor Dutton, Heather Shope, and Ashley Shope.

Services to honor the life of James William (J.W.) Shope will be held Sunday, May 24th at 2:00 PM from Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow at Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers serving are Bryan Phipps, Lynn Phipps, Eddie Phipps, Greg Kirby, and Bobby Blackstock. Honorary pallbearers serving are Bill Price, Alan Price, Dale Bennett, and Billy Hugh McAfee.

The Shope family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 23rd from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
