Mrs. Janell Thomas Phillips, age 84 of Calhoun, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Gordon Health Care Center. Mrs. Phillips was born in Gordon County on December 5, 1923, daughter of the late R.D. and Quillie Parsons Thomas. She was a member of the Pine Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death her husband D.F. Phillips, four brothers; Hazel, Troy, Walter Lee and Junior Thomas; and two sisters; Jackie White and Eralene Allen.
Survivors include two sons; Sammy Phillips and his wife Denise of Tunnell Hill, and Gary Phillips of Calhoun; one daughter, Sandra Phillips Betts of Jasper, Alabama; and two sisters, Mary Jo Erwin and Helen Tate, both of Calhoun. Ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Janell Thomas Phillips will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. from the Pine Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Phillips will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers serving will include Chad Phillips, Keith Phillips, Danny Phillips, Craig Betts, Chris Betts and Jay Betts. Honorary pallbearers will include Justin Phillips, Jason Phillips, Brandon Beatty, Hunter Betts, Jon Betts, Jody Childers and Joey Beatty. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Friday after 5:00 p.m.
