Jean Kown

Mrs. Jean Kown, age 78 of Calhoun, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. She was born in Gilmer County on June 15, 1932, daughter of the late Clifford and Maude Tilley Reece. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, David Lee "Bud" Kown; two brothers, Frank Reece and Robert David Reece and his wife Beatrice; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Lizzie and A.L. Shaw, Virginia and James William McHugh, Mildred Louise and Arthur Thomas, Grace and Tommy Rawlins, and Anita Faith and George Oliver Smith; and a brother-in-law, Martin Alvis.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Kown was employed by the Calhoun First National Bank in the bookkeeping department. She was a member of the Reeves Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Kay Kown of Calhoun; a sister, Nancy Alvis of Calhoun; grandchildren, Angie Shaw and her husband Tim, Crystal Roden and her husband David, and Kara Kown; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kayleigh, Kayson, Caleb, and Gage. Other survivors include nieces, Linda Brookshire and her husband Richard, Dianne Cronan and her husband Harold; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Kown will be conducted Sunday, March 20th at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeff Dutton and Pastor Jim Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include David Autry, Bud Faulkenberry, Lynn Faulkenberry, Tim Shaw, Tony Tomlinson, Harold Cronan, Ronnie Fox, and David Roden. Honorary pallbearers are members of Reeves Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. Music will be arranged by Greg Gallman.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
