Mr. Jerry (Lanny) Henderson, age 64 of Calhoun, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Gordon Hospital following several years of declining health. He was born in Ellijay, GA on October 17, 1948, son of Annie Cordell and the late J.C. Henderson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Casandra Henderson; and a sister, Brenda Henderson.
Mr. Henderson had formerly resided in Pickens County, and attended Pickens County Schools. Since retiring from Mannington Commercial after 32 years, he had been employed by Wal-Mart in the Electronics Department. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a member of Sonora Lodge #221. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Shirley Ann Vance Henderson; mother, Annie Cordell Henderson; two sons, Calvin Silvers and his wife Stacy of Oakman, and Brian Hamby of Jasper; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Tommy O'Connor of Warren, Michigan, and Donna and John Graves of Avon, Indiana; a brother, Terry Henderson of Jasper; and five sisters, Ruth Ann Gay and her husand Charles of Ellijay, Deborah Collis and her husband Donnie of Talking Rock, Sharon Henderson of Tate, Sandra Dunn of Talking Rock, and Lynn Creech and her husband Troy of Ballground. Granchildren surviving are Joey Henderson, Autumn Henderson, Zachary Koelling, Jonathan Silvers, and Matthew Silvers; and a great-grandchild, Bentley Henderson. Aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry (Lanny) Henderson will be held Sunday, May 19th at 3:00 pm from the Refuge Baptist Church in Jasper, with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Ricky Jarrett officiating. Mr. Henderson's body will lie in state at the church Sunday from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with graveside Masonic Rites being conducted bt Sonora 221. Active pallbearers include Johnny Stancell, James Stone, David Williams, Eddie Pack, Terry Guinn, and John Scruchins. Honorary pallbearers are employees of Mannington Carpet and grandsons.
The Henderson family will begin receiving friends Friday after 6:00 pm at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, and will continue through Saturday and Sunday until time to depart to the church.
