Mr. Jerry Lee Brown, age 62 of Sugar Valley, GA died Tuesday October 1, 2013 at his residence following a heart attack.
Jerry was born in Lynch, KY on September 9, 1951, son of the late Frank and Elsie Kitts Brown. Prior to moving to Gordon County in 1985, he was patrolman with the Cumberland Police Department in Cumberland, Kentucky and was a patrolman with the Harlan County Sheriff Department. After he moved to Georgia he was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob Brown and Fred Brown. Jerry was a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church and was instrumental in organizing the Gordon County Sheriff's Auxiliary having served as it's First President. He was an avid Dirt Track Racing Fan and spent his Saturday evenings in the infield at North Georgia Speedway every racing season for the past 20 plus years.
Survivors include his wife, Vickey Rae Cummins Brown to whom he was married for 45 years, two daughters, Patricia Funk and her husband Charley of Lynch, KY., and Jona Lay and her husband Dale of Calhoun, GA., one son, Chris Brown and his wife Leticia of Calhoun. Seven grandchildren, Chrissi Brown, Kalin Lay, Lace Culberson, Miranda Kerr, Hunter Lay, Chandler Funk and Ty Brown. One great grandchild, Maycee Ollis. Five sisters, Joan Cooper of LaPorte, IN., Connie Chastain and her husband Ronnie of Michigan City, IN., Dana Brown of Michigan City, IN., Rhonda Holcomb and Shirley Allen both of Pikeville, KY. Three Brothers, Tom Brown of Laporte, IN., Danny Brown and his wife Charlene of Cumberland, KY and Gary "Pete" Brown and his wife Linda of Rolling Prairie, IN. A host of Nieces, Nephews and other relatives also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Jerry Lee Brown will be held Friday October 4th. At 11:00 AM at Tabernacle of Praise Church with Pastor Roy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Fain Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Officers and Staff of Gordon County Sheriff's Department, Gordon County Sheriff Department Honor Guard and members of the Gordon County Sheriff's Auxiliary.
