Jerry Dean Sterling, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was born in 1945, in Maryville, Tennessee to the late John and Zelma Mae Smelser Sterling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Chester and John Jr.; sisters, Willie Helen and Libby; his previous wife and the mother of his children, Regina Townsend.
As a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Manufacturing Technology, he was prepared for a 33-year career with Lockheed Martin. The interests and natural talent he had were unique in the fact that he could repair most anything. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, old cars, and automotive repair and "general fixing". Jerry was an active member of Calhoun First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sterling; sons, Mike (Melissa) Sterling of Wartrace, Tennessee and Rusty (Shelly) Sterling of Dallas, Georgia; grandchildren Evan, Aidan, and Eden.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 26, 2024, in the People Street of Calhoun First Baptist Church, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 26, from the Sanctuary of Calhoun First Baptist Church with Dr. John Barber officiating. Chet and Reva Utz will be in charge of music. Burial will follow in West Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are Bob Bullard, Terry Weaver, Tom Shanahan, Skipper Stewart, Evan Sterling, and Aidan Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pearson Volunteer Ministry, 248 Reeves Station Rd, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701, or Calvary Childrens Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Rd, Powder Springs, Georgia, 30127.
