Jerry Wallace Childs

Mr. Jerry Wallace Childs, age 64 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 following eight months of declining health. He was born in Murray County on October 16, 1945, son of the late Neal and Lois Dixon Childs. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Knight.

Jerry was retired from BellSouth, and was a deacon and member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Knight Childs; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Jennifer Childs of Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Bob Oesterle of Calhoun; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Juanita and George Ross of Chatsworth, Wanda and David Scott of Savannah, and Sheila and Donny White of Ranger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Margie Moss, Jerry and Jean Casey, Lester Knight, and Ray and Debbie Noland; his mother-in-law, Mary Lee Knight; and grandchildren, Devin Oesterle, Lauren Oesterle, Alyssa Childs, Brooke Childs, and Easton Childs. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Wallace Childs will be conducted Thursday, September 30th at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, with Dr. William Roberts and Rev. George Ross officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park with Rev. Tommy Phillips conducting the committal service. Active pallbearers will include Devin Oesterle, Roy Dodd, Easton Childs, Joe O'Neal, Greg Tanner, Calvin Benton, Mickey Moore, Barney Harril, Jamey Balliew, and Seth Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Trimble, Dale Hollis, Lionel Bramblett, Billy Guy, Raymond Long, Jerry Davis, Don Gravitt, Harold Blackstock, Edward Boswell, Herbert Blackstock, Jimmy Chapman, Rev. John Bearden, Dick Gilbert, Rev. Leroy Whitfield, Rev, Lamar Bearden, Conway Clements, Michael Langston, Ron Free, Dale Bennett, and the Pleasant Valley Adult Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday after 4:00pm.
