Jessie Brannon Smith

Mrs. Jessie Higdon Brannon Smith, 90 of Calhoun, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Gordon Health Care following several years of declining health. She was born in Florida on December 24, 1925, daughter of the late Ed and Dolly Williamson Higdon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Howell Brannon; her second husband, Woodrow Smith; daughters, Karen Lea Brannon, and Kathy Lynn Brannon; brothers, Ebb Hidgon, William Higdon, and Grady Higdon; step-sons, Everette Smith, Jack Smith, and Otis Smith; a step-daughter, Retha Smith Stewart; and a sister, Agnes Higdon Dudley.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Deborah Brannon of Calhoun; her daughter, Trisha Brannon of Fairmount; sisters, Mina Hidgon Floyd and Frances Higdon Elliston, both of McDonough; a granddaughter, Paula Brannon Adams (Chad) of Sonoraville; and a great-grandchild, Halley Claire Adams. A step-daughter, Carolyn Smith Fowler of Alabama, and a host of step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Jessie Higdon Brannon Smith will be held Tuesday, July 19th at 11:00 AM from Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church, with Rev. Guy Kent officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Bruce Kelly, Steve Brannon, Freddie Childers, Billy Higdon, Danny Griffin, Ronnie Childers, and Van Teague.

Jessie Brannon Smith was a long-time member of the Fairmount Community, and a graduate of Pickens County Vocational Technical School. She retired from the City of Fairmount as City Clerk, and was a member of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, July 18th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
