Sister Jessie Mae Scoggins of 25 Bent Oak Trail, Rome, Georgia went to her eternal home in heaven at 1:00 a.m. March 26, 2008 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness. She was born September 8, 1926 in Fannin County, Georgia, daughter of the late Elisha and Hester Davenport Green. She married Rev. William Hoyt Scoggins on March 25, 1943 and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Sister Scoggins and her husband began their gospel ministry in the Northwest Georgia area in 1957, where they have ministered and evangelized throughout the area. Their ministry in the Church of God led them to pastorates of several churches across North Georgia. She most recently attended North Rome Church of God.
She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jewel Burchett and Ruby Haralson and 4 brothers, Duel, Arvil, Ernest and Jimmy Green.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. William Hoyt Scoggins of Rome; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Phebe & Danny Wilson of Rome; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Ty & Linda Scoggins of Rome and Dolan & Rhonda Scoggins of Rockmart; one sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Gene Langley of Calhoun; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Richie & Gina Scoggins of Rome, Dobie Scoggins of Rockmart, Chad & Chrissy Scoggins of Rome, Shannon & Joey Cross of Rome, Leah & David Honea of Rome and Aaron Wilson of Rome; 4 great grandchildren, Hannah Scoggins, Kristen Scoggins, Braxton Honea and Caroline Cross, all of Rome.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Sister Jessie Mae Scoggins will be held Friday March 28, 2008 at 12:00 noon, from the North Rome Church of God, with Rev. Harold Jones and Sister Annette Whitley officiating. Music will be arranged by the North Rome Choir, Joey Cross and Kristen Scoggins. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers serving will include Richie Scoggins, Dobie Scoggins, Chad Scoggins, Aaron Wilson, David Honea, Bud Owens, J.R. Burchett & Trammell Burchett. Honorary pallbearers will include Joey Cross, Jerry Crowe, Seth Duke, James Honea, Everett Nix, Scott Nix, Josh Owens, Troy Parker, Buddy Scoggins, Junior Scoggins, Tony Scoggins, Jackie Stover, Howard Tyler and Elbert Whitley.
The family will be receiving friends Thursday March 27 between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home in Calhoun.
