Mrs. Joan Terrill Putnam, age 75 of Calhoun, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness.
Joan was born in Foley, FL on November 2, 1936, daughter of the late Raymond S. Terrill and the late Ruby Bishop Terrill.
She spent most of her early life in Adairsville, and graduated from Adairsville High, having played for an award winning basketball team. Following graduation and up until motherhood, she worked at Adairsville Bank as a teller. While dating her future husband Blake she assisted with Training Union at Belmont Baptist Church, where she quickly bonded with the students. While raised a Methodist, after marriage she joined Belmont where Blake was a member and taught the "Beginners" Training Union class for several years. She also served as a nursery worker, Sunday School secretary, Training Union teacher, and a finance committee member. She was a member of the Esther Sunday School class. Any job or challenge she faced, her goal was to do it to perfection, whether it was as a wife, mother, or in the church. Joan enjoyed sewing clothes for her family. She enjoyed fishing and had her own boat and motor. She was an avid flower gardener and always looked for a place to plant more red roses. She did not seek recognition, but desired to serve her family, church, and friends in a loving, kind manner.
Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Blake Putnam; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mary Putnam of Calhoun; two sisters, Barbara Polk and Jacque (John) Harbison of Kennesaw; a brother, Harry (Linda) Terrill of Harriman, TN; and three nieces and a nephew.
