Joel "Dees" Washington

Mr. Joel, better known as "Dees", Washington, age 71 of Adairsville, died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Redmond Regional Medical Center, following several months of declining health. He was born in Cartersville, GA on July 9, 1944, son of the late Tracy and Dorothy Lee Edwards Washington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lowder Washington on May 14, 2008.

Mr. Washington was a veteran, serving his country in the US Navy, and was a former Fire Chief for the City of Adairsville. He enjoyed gospel and bluegrass music, and cooking, and baking his favorite cake, Red Velvet. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons, Phil Washington of Dallas, GA, Danny Moore of Adairsville, and Donald Moore of Rome; his daughter, Paula Washington Casey; a sister, Sue Smith; grandchildren, Blake Washington, Tyler Washington, Candice Washington, Brook Washington, Abigail Washington, Steven (Taylor) Dotson of Calhoun, Sylvia Dotson of Adairsville, Heather Moore Minor of Adairsville, and Austin Moore of Adairsville; and great-grandchildren, Allie Dotson, and Montana Minor.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Joel "Dees" Washington will be held Sunday, October 18th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Adair and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville, with military honors. Pallbearers serving will include David Dotson, Jake Fowler, Jerry Adair, Jamie Minor, Walter McBee, and Brent Stewart. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brock Pelfrey Adairsville Post 245 of the American Legion.

The Washington family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, October 17th at 5:00 PM.
