Joel Massingill

Mr. Joel Clarence Massingill, age 72 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Massingill was born on May 6, 1939 in Bartow County, son of the late Virgil Walter Massingill and Ruth Mae Falls Massingill.

During his lifetime, he worked for many years for J.A. King Dairies, and later retired from the University of Georgia Experiment Station. He was a member of West Union Baptist Church and a licensed minister.

Mr. Massingill is survived by his wife, Louise Massingill, to whom he had been married for 53 years; a daughter, Sarah Massingill of the Rosedale Community; three sons, Danny Massingill and his wife Reginia, Johnny Massingill and his wife Pam, all of the Rosedale Community, and Matt Massingill and his wife Alma of Calhoun; five grandchildren, Daniel Massingill, Billy Massingill, Christopher Massingill, Scarlett Everett and Allison Massingill; and a brother, Claude Massingill of Alabama. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Joel Clarence Massingill will be conducted Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 4:00pm from the West Union Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating. Music will be arranged by Herman and Wanda Sue Baker. Pallbearers serving include Daniel Massingill, Billy Massingill, Chris Massingill, Ricky Massingill, Justin Everett, Matt Lock, Dewey Dunaway, Walt Dunaway. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 3:15pm Tuesday. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Everett Springs Road.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
