Army Private 2nd Class Samuel Joel Taylor, age 30 of Sugar Valley, GA died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Whitfield County on September 18, 1980, son of Ron and Nancy Patterson Taylor. Joel was a graduate of Calhoun High School and was Yellow Jacket standout on the Baseball Team as a pitcher.
Joel was preceded in death by grandparents, Mildred and Charlie Patterson, and Zora Bell Taylor.
He was proudly serving his country in the US Army, stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia.
Survivors include his loving parents, Ron and Nancy Taylor; his grandfather, Claude Taylor, a special friend Julie Reeves and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of Sugar Valley.
Funeral services for Army Private 2nd Class Samuel Joel Taylor will be held Friday, June 3rd at 11:00am from the Sugar Valley Church of God, with Pastor Dwaine Shadix officiating. Music will be arranged by members of the Sugar Valley Church of God. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
Joel's body will lie in state at the Sugar Valley Church of God Friday from 10:00am until the funeral hour of 11:00am.
The family will receive friends at the Sugar Valley Baptist Church Thursday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
