John Douglas Cowart

Mr. John Douglas Cowart, age 71 of the Union Grove Church Road in Gordon County, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Bartow County on July 27, 1937, son of the late John and Alice Elizabeth Stephens Cowart. He was also preceded in death by a brother, A.B. Cowart, and a sister, Alma Richardson. Mr. Cowart had retired from the Goldkist Corporation in July of 2008 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Bell Thurman Cowart; a son, Ray Thurman; a brother, Hughlon Cowart; and sisters, Grace Adcock, Lillie Pratt, Martha Sewell, Jacqueline Cowart, Bobbie Wyatt, Patsy Vines, Carolyn Cowart, Sara Shaular, and Marian Shook; and a granddaughter, Amber Thurman..

Funeral services for Mr. John Douglas Cowart will be conducted Wednesday, May 6 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Donald Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bartow County. Active pallbearers will include Cody Baldwin, Ricky Thurman, Richard Lee, Kevin Pierce, Doyle Adcock, and Dearl Adcock. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1:15pm. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday, after 4:00pm.
