Mr. John Harvey Silvers, age 73 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 at his residence, following several months of declining health. He was born July 4, 1933 in Gordon County, son of the late Thomas and Callie Craig Silvers. Mr. Silvers was retired from Mannington Carpet Mills.
Mr. John Silvers is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha; two sons; Ray Silvers, and Dale and his wife Tina Silvers of Calhoun; one brother; Homer Silvers and his wife Pearl of Ranger; and two grandchildren; Jill Silvers of Athens GA, and Brett Silvers of Calhoun.
Funeral services for Mr. John Silvers will be conducted on Monday at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Phillips officiating. Active pallbearers will include Phillip Oliver, David Silvers, Barney Harrill, David Patterson, Chad Petty, and Fred Bowling. Honorary pallbearers include Edward Petty, Tony Petty, Richard Petty, Mike Phillips, Dwight Kirby, and Larry Gaines. All of these men are asked to meet at the funeral home Monday at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.
