Obituary
John Robert Stephens, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Gordon Health and Rehab from an extended illness. He was born August 25, 1933 in Lumberton, North Carolina, to the late Ella Rose Stephens and Odell Owens.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eva Grace Britt Stephens; his daughter Brenda Stephens Dickinson and her husband George Dickinson; his grandchildren Melissa Dickinson and her husband Tom Query, Laura Dickinson Brown and her husband Joseph Brown; his great grandchildren Gage and Aerie Brown; his cousins Betty Britt, Frances Richardson, Marcella Taylor, Frankie Bolton, Michael Bolton, and Gilbert Boothe.
Mr. Stephens was a loving Father, devoted husband, and a mischievous, fun loving Grandfather and Great-Grandfather.
He proudly served his country and fellow Naval comrades during the Korean War on the USS Sandoval.
He retired from Moss Trucking Company in the early 1990s, but continued his joy of long distance travel by driving tour buses accompanied by his wife, his childhood sweetheart.
Mr. John thoroughly enjoyed many outdoor activities; working in the garden and his beautiful landscaped yard, playing with the dogs, and has even been known for enjoying goats, horses, and occasional ducks.
He and his wife are members of First Baptist Church of Lumberton, North Carolina.
He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 11:00am in the Georgia National Cemetery with Military honors.
