Mr. John Van Goosen, age 87 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 19, 1921, son of the late Henry and Clara Munekel Van Goosen. During his life he worked for John Deere and Company in Illinois as a draftsman, and later moved to Calhoun, Georgia and retired from the Gordon County Health Department. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII, and was a member of the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Mary McCoubrey Van Goosen; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Huel Thompson; two sons and daughters-in-law, J.D. and Annette Van Goosen and Ron and Trish Van Goosen; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. John Van Goosen will be conducted on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. from the graveside at Chandler Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Calhoun Seventh Day Adventist Church for missions.
