Mrs. Johnnie Edwards Greeson Mitchum, age 85 of Rome, formerly of Gordon County, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in Floyd Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Mitchum was born in Gordon County on January 22, 1924, daughter of the late George W. Edwards Sr. and Minnie Mashburn Edwards.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her first husband, Wilburn Greeson; four sisters, Ruby Shivers, Golda Rutledge, Rosa Lee Barton and Sally Tribble; and four brothers, George Edwards Jr., Wallace Edwards, Howard Edwards and Jack Edwards.
Survivors include her husband, Rusty Mitchum of Rome; a daughter, La Ray Greeson Dunbar of Calhoun; a grandson, Russell Reid and his wife Monique; and three granddaughters, Hannah, Lauren and Katie Reid, all of Rome.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Edwards Mitchum will be held Saturday, May 16th at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Bruce Edwards and Rev. Stephen Edwards officiating. Bud and Vickie Owens and Joan Eggers will have charge of the music. Interment will follow in Fain cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Russell Reid, Mike Shivers, John Shivers, David Edwards and Jerry Penney. Honorary pallbearers serving include Ernest Rutledge, Donald Rutledge, Billy Barton and Mark Edwards.
The family will receive friends Friday after 5:00pm at the funeral home. Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of conducting the funeral service for Mrs. Johnnie Edwards Greeson Mitchum of Rome, formerly of Gordon County.
