Johnnie Mae Childers Bailey, 75, of the Sonoraville community, died at Gordon Hospital on Saturday, November 11, 2017, following several months of declining health. Johnnie Mae was born in Pickens County on December 22, 1941; she was the daughter of the late John Richard and Hazel Long Childers. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, James Bailey. Johnnie Mae loved the outdoors. She possessed a green thumb, and it showed in all her gardening endeavors. She enjoyed the sights and sounds of the animals that lived in the woods that she walked and camped in. Johnnie Mae had a delightful sense of humor, and loved to talk with anyone that would stop and spend some time with her. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Johnnie Mae loved to attend gospel singing's. Though she will be missed, thoughts of her will always bring a smile.
Johnnie Mae is survived by her husband of more than fifty-seven years, Wesley Bailey; her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Karen Bailey, Charles and P.J. Bailey, Keith and Kerry Bailey, and Terry and Brenda Bailey; her daughters and son-in-law, Teresa and Rogelio Najera, and Holly Bailey; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hall, Faye Gravitt, and Ethel (Jerry) Knight; her grandchildren, James Leon Bailey, Gary Bailey, Kevin Bailey, Jeremy Bailey, Cameron Bailey, Jayven Bailey, Andrea Touhy, Jessica Barton, Christina Barton, Kayla Ralston, Katelynn Claunch, Kelsie Sauer, Kalias Bailey, Kelita Bailey, Maleah Cornwell, Shealin Bailey, Caleb Bailey, Ariel Silvers, Terrance Bowen, Nicholas Najera, Jazzell Najera, Leatte Hardy, James Sweeney Jr., Skylar Sweeney, Dakota Sweeney and Flora Anderson; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The Bailey family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, November 14, , 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Hayes Cemetery. Rev. David Baker and Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate. Ethel Knight will arrange music for the service. Johnnie Maes grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
