Johnnie Mae Barton

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Barton, age 85 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Gordon Health Care following several years of declining health.

She was born in Murray County on March 18, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Tiney Moss Bell Muse. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Madison "Bud" Barton; a daughter, Helen B. Ellis; two daughters-in-law, Deloris Barton and Melinda Barton; a son-in-law, James Stewart; a brother, Randolph Muse; two sisters, Analee Logan and Velma Maze; and two grandchildren, Donald Madison Barton, Jr. and Delbert Shane Barton.

Mrs. Barton was retired from Springs Industries. She had been a member of the Sugar Valley Church of God since 1941, and had taught Sunday School for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharion B. Stewart of Calhoun, and Nelda Sue Reed and her husband Mike of Paducah, Kentucky; three sons, Jerry Barton and his wife Linda, Donald M. Barton, and Delbert J. Barton, all of Calhoun; a sister, Vivian Stanfield of Calhoun; and a brother, Gene Bell of Ellijay. Twelve grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnnie Mae Barton will be conducted Monday, December 27th at 11:00am from the Sugar Valley Church of God, with Pastor Dwaine Shadix officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church Cemetery. Music will be arranged by the church choir. Active pallbearers will include Michael Barton, Jim Roberts, David Raines, Lonnie Walker, Jack McGaskey, and Jarod Raines. These gentlemen are requested to assemble at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Monday at 10:00am.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Sunday after 2:00pm.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in Mrs. Barton's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, Georgia 30721.
