Obituary
Joyce Ann (Casey) Smith, 77, of Calhoun, GA passed awaysuddenly but peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Shewas born on June 14, 1943, to the late Rev. Dewey and Irene Glass Casey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her elder sister Ruby Smith, sister-in-law RheldaCasey, and brother-in-law Ken Smith.
Joyce was employed for more than 30 years with the Calhoun Times Newspaper, where she served as the Food Editor of the Cook of the Week column. She later compiled and published a cookbook of the popular recipes from her column.
Joyce was a devoted Christian and faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church. She demonstrated her commitment to loving and serving others daily in her role as a dedicated motherand a loving wife to her husband of 58 years.
Joyce was a generous and caring wife, mother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Glen Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Judge D. Scott and Alicia Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Holli and John Leach; brothers and sister-in-law, M.D. Casey, and Rev. Winford and Virginia Casey; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Smith, Sandra and Alan Davis, and Rembert Smith; granddaughters, Molly Smith, Megan Smith, Jaiden Leach and Kinsey Leach; and several nephews and nieces. Other brothers- and sisters-in-laws also survive, along with close friends Gail Willis, Kristi Langham, Missy Bagwell, Donna Fox, Pam Tribble, and many others.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Joyce Ann (Casey) Smith will be held Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 4:00 PM from Riverview Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Pilgrim and Rev. Jamey Hunt officiating. Music will be arranged by Jacin Burns and her granddaughters. Members of the Ladies Sunday School Class at Riverview Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Riverview Baptist Church on Sunday, January 24th between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Joyce's memory to Riverview Baptist Church Building Fund, Post Office Box 2327, Calhoun, Georgia 30703.
Face masks are suggested and social distancing guidelines are to be observed by those attending the service.
