On Wednesday, August 12, 2015, just 17 days shy of her 80th birthday, Joyce M. Philippi received her Angel Wings surrounded by her loved ones. Joyce, of Douglasville, GA was born on August 29, 1935 in Center Point, Arkansas to the late Gladys Ritchey and Paul Smith. She married the love of her life, Donald G. Philippi, on February 15, 1958 in Chicago, IL. She was the beloved step-daughter of the late Marion Hook and the late Constantino "Dean" Distasio and is the beloved sister of Elmer and step-sister of Teresa.

Joyce is survived by her 5 children: Diane Bruce, Michael Philippi, Denise Philippi, Kathy Stinson, and David (Denise) Philippi; 12 grandchildren: Curtis, Jeremy, Sarah, Justin, Tanya, Ashley, Jordan (Kristen), Allen, Briana, Larnon, Megan, and Marisa; 2 great-grandchildren: Lily and Jude; her brother Elmer (Joyce) Hook, her step-sister Teresa Lucas, her brother-in-law Ronald Cina; her sister-in-law Elaine (Ed) Seeger; and 6 nieces and nephews, whom she was affectionately known as "Aunt Cookie."
She was preceded in death by her infant son, George, and by her husband, of 52 years, Donald G. Philippi, and- by her mother, father, and step-fathers, and her sister-in-law, Joyce Philippi Cina.

Joyce was a very gentle soul, who could be a firecracker when needed. She loved to sew, cook and garden and the beach. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Joyce M. Philippi will be held Saturday, August 22nd at 3:00 pm from Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Adair officiating.
