Mr. J.R. Bennett, age 69 of Plainville, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Gordon County on April 16, 1942, son of the late Marion Dennis "Dink" Bennett and the late Bertha Louise Goss Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Marion Kenneth Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a veteran, serving his country in the US Navy. He had retired from General Motors after 30 years employment.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Melissa Bryant of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Garrett and Morgan Bryant; three brothers, Doyle, Ted, and Jimmy Bennett, all of Calhoun; four sisters, Carolyn Hamrick of Marietta, GA, Janice Hancock of Atlanta, and Catherine Brookshire and Joyce Silvers, both of Calhoun; a brother-in-law, James Hancock of Atlanta; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine and Tammy Bennett, both of Calhoun. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. J.R. Bennett will be held Thursday, May 26th at 3:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Clyde Young, Billy Thomas, and Jimmy Gravitt. Nephews and cousins will serve as honorary escort.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
