J.W. Beal

Mr. John William (J.W.) Beal, age 82 of Fairmount, passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born on August 4, 1927 in Murray County, son of the late John Walter Beal and Alma Cox Beal. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Evans and Odell Corn. Mr. Beal had lived most of his life in Gordon County, and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a poultry farmer, a member of the North Georgia Poultry Association, and was also a member of the American Legion Post of Fairmount.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Louise Lomax Beal, to whom he was married for 58 years; a son, Michael Beal and his wife Mona of Fairmount; three sisters, Earselle Crowe and Marnell Buttrum, both of Fairmount, and Estel Gilbert of Calhoun. Three grandchildren, Matthew Beal, Mackenzie Beal and Brittany Beal, a granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Beal, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. John William (J.W.) Beal will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Langston officiating. Music will be arranged by Matt Lacey. Active pallbearers serving will include Michael Beal, Matthew Beal, Mackenzie Beal, Doug Evans, Billy Mauldin and Chris Burger. Honorary pallbearers serving will include Reed Long, Grady Burger, Donnie Fountain, Lonnie Fountain, George Bernard and Larry Bailey. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1:30pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday after 6:30pm. Interment will follow the service in the Johnson Cemetery in Fairmount, Georgia with military honors being accorded by the United States Army.
