J.W. Timms

Rev. J.W. Timms, age 81 of Rock Spring, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe. He was born on March 11, 1931 son of the late John Arthur and Bulah Shepherd Timms. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lorene Hamrick Timms; and two brothers, Herbert Timms and Herman Timms.

Rev. Timms was a retired Church of God minister. He began his work life at Echota Cotton Mills, and then served as Pastor of many churches, including Adairsville Church of God in 1957; Columbus in 1966; Cedartown in 1966; Macon in 1976; LaFayette in 1977; College Street Church of God in Calhoun in 1987; Riverside Church of God in Atlanta in 1989; and he then retired in 1997.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Connie Timms of Cedartown, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Trudy and Tony Snider of Rock Spring; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Linda Timms of Resaca, GA, and Aaron and Carlotta Timms of Calhoun, GA; five sisters, Betty Burton and her husband Charlie of Calhoun, Lucille Hall of Calhoun, Mary Jones and her husband Moody of Calhoun, Hazel Burnette and her husband Eddie of Fayetteville, GA, and Margie Dutton and her husband Kenneth of Calhoun; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Timms of Ranger, GA. Grandchildren surviving are Laci Hayden and her husband Matt, Chad Timms, Jeremy Glenn and his wife Tara, and Daniel Glenn and his wife Careomy; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Hayden, Lindsey Hayden, McKenzie Glenn, Gavin Glenn, and Dawson and Dakota Timms.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Rev. J.W. Timms will be held Saturday, February 9th at 12:00 noon from the College Street Church of God in Calhoun, GA, with Ministers Delton Harne, Ed Pasley, and Jeremy Singletary officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cedartown, GA, with Jerald Eaves conducting the committal service. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The Timms family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home in Calhoun, GA on Friday after 3:00pm.
