Katheryn Sims Dodd

Mrs. Katheryn Sims Dodd, age 65 of the New Town Community, Calhoun, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at her residence following two years of declining health.

Mrs. Dodd was born on June 16, 1943 in Bartow County, daughter of the late Floyd and Willie Garrett Sims. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Ray. She was a retired employee of the Department of Family and Children's Services, serving in the Accounting Office, and was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Dodd, to whom she was married for 44 years; three daughters, Susan Walraven and her husband Randy of Ranger, Deborah Crump, and Tonya Bowman and her husband, Greg all of Calhoun; and a step-sister, Sarah Mashburn of Calhoun. Surviving grandchildren include Crystal Whitfield, Lea Crump, Kendall Bowman, and Lindsay Bowman, all of Calhoun, and Cassie Walraven, Caleb Walraven, and Cody Walraven, all of Ranger. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Katheryn Sims Dodd will be conducted Saturday at 3:00pm from the Philadelphia Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim McCulley and Rev. Joe Garrett officiating. Music will be arranged by the Philadelphia Baptist Church Choir. Active pallbearers serving will include Stacey James, Tim Mulkey, Chris Mulkey, Lanier Roland, Danny Fain and Tony Petty. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 2:00pm. Honorary pallbearers are Lowell Coggins and Herbert Blackstock. Interment will follow the service in the Chandler Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday, beginning at 5:00pm.
