L. C. Cooke Jr

Mr. L.C. Cooke, Jr., age 76 of Plainville, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Cooke was born on April 17, 1932 in Bartow County, son of the late Littleton Cecil Cooke and Velma Beatrice Wilson Cooke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linnie Marie Bowman Cooke; an infant daughter; a son, LaDon Cooke; sisters, Donna Lynn Marks and Dorothy Heberlin; and a brother, Van Cook. Mr. Cooke was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainville where he helped with the Senior's Meals. He was a member of Plainville Lodge # 364 F & AM where he was a Past Master, and the Seven Hills Day Light Lodge of Rome, where he was currently serving as Senior Warden. He was an honorary member of Oothcalooga Lodge # 154 F & AM, Hill City Lodge # 319 F & AM, Mackey Lodge # 120 F & AM, Pleasant Grove Lodge # 702 F & AM, the Resaca Day Light Lodge, and the Echota Vann Shrine Club. Mr. Cooke enjoyed having a garden and sharing it with others. His hobby was obtaining bicycles and repairing them for needy children.

Mr. Cooke is survived by five sisters; Joyce Greeson of Resaca, Pat Bowman of Shannon, Bettye Kinman of Conyers, and Sue Lane and Karen Wigley, both of Rome; and a special friend, Bob Bailey of Plainville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. L.C. Cooke, Jr. will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Webster and Rev. Eugene Clark officiating. Active pallbearers serving will include Kyle Kinman, Karey Kinman, Greg Bowman, Wyman Autry, Vaughn King and Andrew Coker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Jackson, Virgil Storey, Sharon McEntyre and Sammy Brown. Active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1:30pm. Interment will follow the service in the Scott Cemetery, with the Gordon County Masonic Club conducting the Masonic graveside rites. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday evening during the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm.
