Lamar Tomlinson

Lamar Tomlinson, 83, of Calhoun, died at Gordon Healthcare on Saturday, May 27, 2017, following several years of declining health. Lamar was born in Gordon County on August 9, 1933; he was the son of the late Winford Tomlinson Sr. and the late Irene Chastain Tomlinson. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Charlotte Erwin Tomlinson, in 2016; his brothers, Winford Tomlinson Jr., Dan Tomlinson, and Jack Tomlinson; his sisters, Florence Taylor and Jolene Treadaway. Lamar graduated from Liberty High School in the class of 1951; he excelled at basketball and was a member of the Gordon County Championship Team where he played forward. After graduation, Lamar joined The United States Army where he was a Corporal from 1955 until 1958. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was awarded as the best marksman in his platoon. He was posted on Okinawa, Japan, for fourteen months, where he survived five typhoons. Lamar enjoyed gardening, watching classic western movies, and raising bantam chickens. He especially loved "The Lone Ranger." Lamar worked in the textile industry at several local companies; he retired from Georgia Tufters and Georgia Textiles. He had served as an Elder at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Later he was a member at Resaca Church of God, and was presently a member of Victory Temple Church of God.
Lamar is survived by his son, Tony Tomlinson; his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Neal Shadden; his brother, Max Tomlinson; his sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Clinton Poole; his nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Tomlinson family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from Victory Temple Church of God. Pastor Jeff Dutton and Pastor Keith Reid will officiate. Burial will follow at Fain Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Childers officiating. Pallbearers are Frankie Tomlinson, Eddie Tomlinson, Jerome Poole, Keith Poole, Mark Poole, and Phelan Poole. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Tomlinson, Jimmy Tomlinson, Jerry Treadaway, and Greg Taylor.
