Mr. Larry Darby age 58, a well known of the Lily Pond Community, died Sunday evening at Redmond Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Darby was born in Floyd County, Georgia on March 4, 1948 son of Louis G. and Joy Brock Darby. Larry had lived the greater part of his life in Gordon County, and for many years was a truck driver for Johnson Motor Lines, and retired as a driver for Yellow Freight. He was a poultry Farmer and owned and operated AppleSHINE Car Wash and Lube in Calhoun. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Darby in 1987 and by his mother, Joy Brock Darby in 1999. Larry was a member and Chairman of the Deacon Fellowship at Trinity Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Darby, to whom he was married for 17 years. Five daughters, Alicia Darby of Dunwoody; Maria Darby Scott and her husband Patrick of Adairsville; Carla Jenkins Saunders and her husband Greg of Calhoun; Jennifer Jenkins Bright and her husband Dereck of Rome and Elizabeth (Libby) Dunkin Mines and her husband Shawn of Kennesaw. One sister, Tammy Darby Moraitakis and her husband Steve of Calhoun. Two brothers, Harry Darby and his wife Kathy of Calhoun and Joe Darby and his wife Martha of Calhoun. Father, Louis Darby and his wife Mary Frances of Calhoun. Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Guy and Alice Culpepper of Adairsville. Six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Larry Darby will be conducted Tuesday February 27th at 4:00 PM from Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery with Rev. Gary Bowman in charge of the graveside service. Music will be arranged by Jody Darby and Rachael Harris. Pallbearers serving will include, Steve Culpepper, Jim Kearce, Robert Kinsey, Jack Bibb, Jeff Henderson, Brock Henderson and Ricky Holden. Honorary pallbearers serving will include the Deacon Fellowship of Trinity Baptist Church, The Rock Sunday School Class and Don McDaniel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund in Larry's Memory.
The family will receive friends at Trinity Baptist Church Monday evening, between the hours of 5:00 and 9:00 PM.
