L. Leonard Reece, 86, of Calhoun, died at his home on Sunday, September 18, 2016. Leonard was born in Oakman on June 29, 1930; he was the son of the late Lonnie and Laura Walker Reece. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene and Ruth Ell Reece; his brother, L.D. Reece Jr.; his step-mother, Myrtle Reece. Leonard was a longtime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. There, he took an active role in many church activities. He was valedictorian of his class at Fairmount High School where he graduated in 1947. Leonard served his country in The United States Air Force. He had served as president of The Gordon County United Methodist Men's Group. He served as president of the Calhoun Yellow Jackets Band Booster Club. Leonard retired from World Carpets. He served as a Bailiff of the Gordon County Superior Court for more than twenty years. Leonard was a thirteen-year cancer survivor.
Leonard is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Mrs. Margaret Lusk Reece; his son, Derek Reece; his brother and sister-in-law, Maxwell and Dorothy Reece; numerous nieces and nephews.
The Reece family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 after 5:00 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial, with United States Air Force Honors, will follow the service at Fain Cemetery. Rev. Greg Burgner, Rev. Guy Kent, and Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate. Music will be arranged by Donna Couch and Charity Carney. Pallbearers are Paul Bunch, Randall Reece Jr., Rick Fuller Jr., Eric Floyd, Todd Lusk, Zak Lusk, Lamar McBrayer, and James O'Shields. Honorary pallbearers are Dwight Gentry, Don Gravitt, Kenneth Roberts, Larry Stamey, Jimmy Goble, Joe Campbell, Paul Wood, Tony McBrayer, Joey Lusk, Phil Lusk, Hon. Tom Pope, and Mitch Ralston. Leonard's body will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m.
Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church recently dedicated the church's annual fall festival to Leonard. The family suggests that memorials be made to the festival, c/o Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. 366 Wesley Chapel Road, Calhoun, Georgia 30701.
