Mrs. Lois Thurman Johnson, age 72 of Ranger, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at her residence. She was born in Gordon County on May 18, 1937, daughter of the late James Pless Thurman and the late Zola Kate Walker Thurman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Talmadge Thurman and James Paul Thurman; three sisters, Rosa Gail Thurman, Virginia Spurling, and Karen Sue Childers; and a granddaughter, Leah Marcale Priest.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth E. Priest and his wife Sue of Bangkok, Thailand, Stanley Owen Priest of Ranger, Allen Priest of Calhoun, and James Matthew Johnson of Ranger; three brothers, Max Thurman and his wife Katie of Fairmount, Daniel Thurman and his wife Diane of Calhoun, and Rembert Thurman and his wife Marie of Fairmount; and six sisters, Dorothy Phillips of Raleigh, NC, Linda Pulliam and her husband Roger of McCaysville, Maxine Parker and her husband Frank, Sheila Childers and her husband Doug, Iline Flynn and her husband Bearnie, and Vera Childers and her husband Clint, all of Fairmount. Grandchildren surviving are Amanda Evalyn Cassel-Priest and Monica Nichole Boyles, both of Corsicana, TX, and three grandsons in Thailand.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Thurman Johnson will be conducted Thursday at 1:00pm from the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Pine Log, with Rev. Ernest Channell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers include Adam Wright, Jeff Thurman, Nick Thurman, Andrew Thurman, Mark Thurman, and Bearnie Flynn. Music will be arranged by Alan Moss.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 9:00am until 9:00pm.
