Lucy Butterworth

Mrs. Lucy Butterworth, age 76 of Calhoun, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer of seven months. She was born in Gilmer County, daughter of the late Ernest and Lora Plemmons. In addition to her parents, was also preceded in death by a niece, Anitra Redd of Douglasville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jewel and Ray Jones of Rocky Face.

During her lifetime, Lucy was employed as an accountant with Diprima Shoes and Appleshine Car Wash. She was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Gene Butterworth; two sons, Terry Butterworth and his wife Lisa, and Greg Butterworth, all of Calhoun; a daughter, Teresa Butterworth of Calhoun; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Brooks and Evelyn Butterworth of Douglasville; and grandchildren, Kyle and Connor Butterworth of Calhoun. Other survivors include a niece, Lorraine Brookshire and her husband Dale; nephews, Raymond Jones and Raymond Redd; and great-nieces and nephews, Megan and Ethan Brookshire, and Chris and Hannah Redd. Various other cousins and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Butterworth will be conducted Friday, March 4th at 2:00pm from the Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. William Roberts and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will include Alan Jackson, Mike Evelti, Chris Hales, Jerry Clark, Bill Elphingstone, and Phil Sloan. Honorary escort will be members of the Salem Baptist Church Senior Adult Class.

The family will receive friends at Salem Baptist Church Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, and again on Friday from 10:00am until the funeral hour of 2:00pm.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Salem Baptist Church.
