Maggie Mathis

Mrs. Maggie Mathis, age 83 of Crestview, Florida, formerly of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Gordon Health Care. She was born in Chattooga County on March 29, 1926, daughter of the late Francis and Ida Keith Battles. During her lifetime, she was a CNA at Regal Residence, and was a member of the Oostanaula Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, L.C. Battles, Bill Battles, and Marshall Battles, and a sister, Amanda Williams.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Charlotte Mitchell of Loganville, and Billy and Judy Mitchell of Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Dale Middleton of Crestview, Florida; and three sisters, Katherine Barrett of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Daisy Day and Mary Haygood, both of Trion. Eight grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Mathis will be conducted Monday at 11:00am from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Deacons of Oostanaula Baptist Church will serve as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
