Malvia Defoor Gilley

Mrs. Malvia DeFoor Gilley, age 88 of Resaca, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at her residence. She was born in Murray County on March 15, 1922, daughter of the late John and Berdie DeFoor. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Duane Roberts; a grandson, Jeffery Couch; and a great-grandson, Joseph Petty. She was a sister of the late Willie Mae DeFoor, Robert DeFoor, Vernon DeFoor, Sidney DeFoor, Ethel DeFoor Powers, Lily Mae DeFoor Anderson, Wayne DeFoor, Clarence DeFoor, and Willard DeFoor Pritchett.

Mrs. Gilley was retired from the textile industry, and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Melody Gilley of Calhoun; three daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Bill Sikkelee of Dalton, Reba and Larry Gallman of Chatsworth, and Vivian and Richard Davis of Resaca; grandchildren, Dana Couch Keene, Carmen Davis Hayes, Candy Gilley Kerr, Anthony Gallman, Tara Gilley, and Ashlee Gilley; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Brindle Kerce, Christi Brindle Mitchell, Bobby Fox, Jody Slaughter, Alan Slaughter, Jordan Kerr, and Hunter Kerr; and great-great grandchildren, Bailey Mitchell, Reagan Kerce, Jake Slaughter, and Allie Slaughter. A very special sister-in-law, Janette DeFoor; and special nieces, Diane Fleming and Olivia Stafford also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Malvia DeFoor Gilley will be conducted Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Harold Blackstock, Rev. Billy Tatum, and Rev. Michael Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Resaca. Active pallbearers will include Carl Loudermilk, Rodney DeFoor, Lamar Pritchett, Bob Gallman, Jarrod Starks, Ronald Balliew, Wesley Kerce, and Brent Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers are Johnson DeFoor, Albert "Snooks" DeFoor, Larry Gallman, Richard Davis, Bill Sikkelee, Grady Stafford and Bo DeFoor. Music will be arranged by Anthony Gallman.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday after 5:00pm.
