Malvin Harlston Hughey

Mr. Malvin Hughey, age 73 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Calhoun Health Care following an extended illness. He was born in Gordon County on November 6, 1936, son of the late M. Pressley Page and Addie Hughey. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Malvin Hughey, Jr. in 1964.

During his lifetime, Mr. Hughey was a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, choir director, a member of the Gordon County Singing Convention, and the Calhoun Optimist Club. He was a member of the Class of 1955 of Red Bud High School, and a member of the school quartet that won state. He was a self-employed business owner of Hughey's TV and Antenna Service.

Survivors include a son, Mitchell Hughey of Fairmount; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Ricky Silvers of Calhoun, and Melissa and Dave Henderson of Roswell; seven grandchildren, Mindy Silvers Martin, Blake Silvers, Leiah Silvers, Logan Ruth, Hannah Ruth, Stephen Hughey, and Tanya Hughey Paini; and a great-grandchild, Madeline Martin.

Funeral services for Mr. Malvin Hughey will be conducted Thursday, November 12th at 1:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Calvin Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Bridget Young. Active pallbearers will include Ricky Silvers, Blake Silvers, Stephen Hughey, Logan Ruth, Dave Henderson, and Jim Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Wendell Stephens and Winston Stephens.

The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
