Mrs. Mamie Jo Williams, age 81 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Erlanger Medical Center. She was a life-long resident of Gordon County, born on August 20, 1931, to the late Henry and Amanda Stone Rickett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Renia Erwin Williams on June 4, 2012; and a sister, Reba Rickett Cook.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Sonora Order of Eastern Star #484, and was retired from Calhoun Spinning. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Erwin Williams; a son, Joel Williams; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Lamar Hicks; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Bagwell Williams; a brother, Odell Rickett; and grandchildren, Amanda Williams, Lashea Williams, Tricia Poindexter, Lori Vest, and Tracy Bennett, all of Calhoun. Thirteen great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Mamie Jo Williams will be held Friday, September 7th at 2:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon and Rev. Walter Hare officiating. Interment will follow in the Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Wade Russell, Ronnie Walden, Denmon Lanier, Phillip Lanier, Calvin Tate, Steve Dillard, and Scotty Bryant. These gentlemen are requested to assemble at the funeral home Friday at 1:15pm.
The Williams family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
The family requests flowers be omitted and donations be made in Mrs. Williams' name to Sons of the American Legion, P.O. Box 494, Calhoun, GA 30701.
