Marcella Joyce Black Gibson

Marcella Joyce Black Gibson, age 70 of Rome, formerly of Gordon County, died Friday August 16, 2013 at her residence. She was a loving mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Gordon County on November 24, 1942, daughter of the late Otto Black and Stella Mae Pack Black. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Gibson, and a sister, Faye Freeman.

Survivors include her husband, L.C. Gibson to whom she was married for 52 years; a daughter Tonya Hancock and her husband Ross of Rome; a son, Randall Gibson and his wife Barbara of Armuchee; four grandchildren, Zachary Gibson, Rachel Gibson Jones and her husband Drew, Daulton Hancock and Peyton Hancock; a great-grandchild, Anderson Jones; three sisters, Hazel Hallman of Calhoun, Patsy Starkey and her husband Allen of Calhoun, and Marsha Townsend and her husband Richard of Fairmount; and two brothers, Terry Black and his wife Barbara of Calhoun, and Larry Black and his wife Peggy of Calhoun. Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marcella Joyce Black Gibson will be held Sunday, August 18th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Chaplain Allen Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Blackwood Springs Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Ferguson in charge of the committal service. Music will be arranged by Rev. Michael Hunt. Pallbearers serving will include Zachary Gibson, Daulton Hancock, Drew Jones, Charles Sluder, Tim Ferguson and Steve Ferguson. Honorary escort will be Sheriff Mitch Ralston and officers and staff of the Gordon County Sheriff's Department.

The family of Marcella Joyce Black Gibson will receive friends Saturday, August 17th at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home after 5:00 PM.
