Margaret Smith Gobbel

Mrs. Margaret Smith Gobbel age 86 of Calhoun, GA died Sunday evening at her resident following several years of declining health.

Mrs. Gobbel was born in Bonaire, GA on December 11, 1925, daughter of the late James and Jimmie Lou Jackson Smith and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gobbel in 2001. Being born and raised on a farm in Georgia and having graduated from Jackson High School in Miami, FL., she attended College in Miami where she met her future husband, Harry. After college during W.W. II, she was employed with the State Department in Washington, D.C. After the War was over she moved back to Miami and married Harry in 1946 and lived in the Miami area until Harry retired from the Postal Service in 1982 and then they moved to Calhoun, GA and made their home here. Margaret loved to share with her friends and neighbors peaches, oranges, apples or whatever else she had and enjoyed baking and cooking and was featured as Calhoun Times Cook of the Week.

Mrs. Gobbel is survived by her children; Patricia Gobbel, Carol Gobbel and Frank Gobbel and Darwin Martin who she considered her adopted daughter all of Calhoun. Two sisters; Sarah Thomas of Sparks, GA. And Beatrice Chutes of Kansas City, MO. One grandson, Phillip Gobbel of Calhoun as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends and neighbors.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Margaret Gobbel will be conducted Saturday December 15th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home. The Gobbel family will receive friends Friday evening December 14th between the hours of 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that Contributions be made to Belmont Baptist Church Kentucky Project, P.O. Box 2046, Calhoun, GA 30703 or to Lookout Mountain Community Client Benefit Fund, P.O. Box 1027, Lafayette, GA. 30728.
