Obituary

Margarette Stokes Johnson, 88, of Calhoun, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at Pruitt Healthcare in Ft. Oglethorpe. She was born in Nashville, TN on February 20, 1931, daughter of the late Henry Frank and Lela Ann Whittle Stokes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Johnson in 2017; her sons, Henry Frank Johnson, and Walter Johnson Jr.; her brothers, Carl Stokes, Charles Stokes, Jess Stokes, Ralph Stokes, Fred Stokes, and James Stokes; and her sisters, Eula Mae Ingle and Pearl Talley.
Margarette was a retired truck driver with Keever Trucking. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Gail Stokes of Calhoun; her daughters and son-in-law, Cindy and Randy Walston of Manchester, GA, and Peggy McGuire of Adairsville; and her daughters-in-law, Kathy Johnson of Rocky Face, and Faye Johnson of Calhoun. Eight grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.
Services to honor the life of Margarette Stokes Johnson will be held Wednesday, July 31st at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Scott McGuire, Shae Parker, Justin Walston, Cody Parker, Johnny Land, and Randy Walston. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Phipps, David Stokes, James Stokes, and Gary Wells.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 30th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
