Marie Owensby Brown

Mrs. Marie Owensby Brown, age 76 of Calhoun, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, after several years of declining health. She was a resident of Gordon Health Care, and had spent most of her life as a full-time homemaker. She was of the Church of God faith.

Mrs. Brown was born in Gilmer County, GA on December 6, 1931, daughter of the late John and Hettie Elrod Owensby. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Duffek, a granddaughter, Zoe Duffek, two sons-in-law, Gary Duffek and Sammy Logan, and by a brother, Johnny Owensby.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Leonard Brown of Calhoun, whom she married on March 27, 1960. Survivors also include two sons; Barry Brown of Atlanta, GA and David and Angie Brown of Reynolds, GA; four daughters, Brenda and Rickey Logan of Talking Rock, Doris and David McLemore, Cathy Logan, and Cindy and Sean Knight of Calhoun. She also had a stepson, Leonard Brown Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Atlanta, GA, and a stepdaughter, Betty Chuipek and her husband Bill of Buckhead; 15 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, a brother, Bill Owensby of Dalton, GA as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Brown will be conducted Friday, January 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Victory Temple Church of God with Pastor Jeff Dutton officiating. Burial will follow in the Chandler Cemetery with Alvin Hales conducting the graveside rites. Pallbearers serving will include Lee Logan, James Logan, Rickey Logan, David McLemore, Jonathon Brown, Anthony Owensby, Darrell Owensby and Tyrone Owensby. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
